Previous photo

A stretch of the Old Eyre Highway east of the Nullarbor Roadhouse. The highway was first quickly built in 1941 for war needs. In 1968 an improved gravel highway was built over the route. It was 1976 before the final section was paved. In some sections, the paved highway was moved from the original, and the old highway remains, unmaintained. In places only a single track remains; here much of its full width can be seen, though some vegetation is taking over.
