The GPS on the ground at Badwater, showing an elevation of −87 m (−285 feet). The Badwater Basin is the lowest place in North America, but the GPS is a little off, it's actually only −86 m. Ironically, the highest point in the Lower 48 (Mt. Whitney 14,505 ft/4421 m), lies just 85 miles (136 km) from here.
