I was in Russia from late March to early June 2007 with a professor from my University, Tom. We were there to go to several towns in the western Russian Arctic to measure the amount of soot in the snow in the area around those towns to find out if the darkening of the snow caused by the soot is helping to speed the melt of the Arctic. Our work was in the small towns of northwestern Russia, but we also spent a lot of time in Saint Petersburg between and after our trips to the Arctic. These photos document some of the trip.
