This is the massive statue, 42.5 m (140 feet) tall, including the base. Known as Alyosha, a friendly form of the name Alexey, it's officially the memorial to The Defenders of the Soviet Arctic during the Great Patriotic War (WWII). The flame marks the ceremonial tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
