Before work got started on the sea ice, there was a refresher about the weapons we had with us for polar bear protection. The closest pistol is a signal pistol, which we used once while on the ice to frighten away a bear that was coming towards us. Behind that is our standard last resort, a Ruger .30-06 rifle. Behind that is someone's personal .44 Magnum revolver.
