Nobody knew an English word for this Finnish device used by fishermen to get a net from one hole to another on frozen lakes, so we used the Finnish word for it: uitto lauta. We used it to get a rope under the ice that could then be used to pull an instrument from one point to another while measuring the amount of sunlight getting through the ice.
