Pool and minarets in the Gölbashi area. At prayer times the calls come from many directions here, making for a loud but interesting and charming atmosphere. A cave here is said to be the birthplace of Abraham, a great Islamic prophet, and has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries. The pools are also linked to Abraham. The story is that he was in Urfa when the Assyrian king Nimrod had him burnt on a funural pyre for destroying pagan gods, but God turned the fire into water and the coals into fish, thus the pools and sacred fish.
